Life in an Islamic country

Posted by alifinmath on February 2, 2008

This from the Independent (a quality British daily):

A young man, a student of journalism, is sentenced to death by an Islamic court for downloading a report from the internet. The sentence is then upheld by the country’s rulers. This is Afghanistan – not in Taliban times but six years after “liberation” and under the democratic rule of the West’s ally Hamid Karzai.

I don’t know how Bush can say with a straight face that Islam is a religion of peace. That’s the last thing it is. It sets new lows in religious, political and social tolerance. The world will be a safe and more civilised place without it.

I don’t know when Europeans will realise it can’t be allowed in any shape or form on their shores and should be eradicated forthwith. That you can’t negotiate and compromise with rabid dogs. And this is coming from someone who’s an unrelenting critic of American and European foreign and military policy.

US foreign policy has led directly to the explosive growth of Islamic fundamentalism by slamming the doors leading to secular modernity, be it represented by an Iranian Mossadegh, and Iraqi Saddam, or an Egyptian Nasser. We are left with the scourge of militant Islam, which is a complete anachronism, and which ir represented by some of the most reactionary, backward-looking, militant, and violent people in the moslem world: mad dogs, in short.
